Almost everyone in America suffers from low back pain at one
time or another, and each know how incapacitating the pain can
be. A recent study has just shown that Chiropractic provides
more improvement in pain and return to function for chronic
low back pain over the most common types of medical care.
The study followed the results of 93 Chiropractic patients and
45 medical patients with chronic, recurrent low back pain.
Chiropractic treatment included spinal manipulation and other
forms of treatment commonly used by chiropractors. The
average number of visits to chiropractors by this group: 4.
The medical treatments often involved the prescription of
anti-inflammatory agents; patients averaged one visit each to
family medical facilities.
Patients treated by chiropractors showed better overall
improvement and satisfaction than medically-treated patients. At
one-month followup, there was a 36% improvement in pain
quality among Chiropractic patients, while the group of medical
patients reported a 29% deterioration. Pain severity improved
31% among Chiropractic patients but only 6% among medical
patients. And there was a 29% improvement in functional
disability among Chiropractic patients, compared to 1% for
medical patients.
It makes sense to try Chiropractic first for low back pain!
