A new concluded study concluded at the Scandinavian College of
Chiropractic in Stockholm, Sweden, gives increasing credibility to
what more and more people are coming to know as fact – that
patients suffering from chronic neck pain benefit from Chiropractic
treatment.
Each person selected for the study had reported continuous neck
pain for a period of at least three months. A total of 41 subjects
were selected with symptoms considered to be chronic. Two groups
were formed – one to receive Chiropractic treatment and the other
receiving no Chiropractic care.
Assessments were done to categorize symptoms, measure
Cervical (neck) Range of Motion (CROM) and Head Repositioning
Accuracy (HRA). The HRA test measures the ability of the individual's
various nervous, skeletal and muscular systems to reposition
the head in a neutral posture following active movement.
The treatment each subject received involved adjustments and
rehabilitation exercises.
It should be noted that when the study began there were no significant
differences between the treated patients and the control
subjects in terms of age, sex, subjective pain intensity, range of
motion, or head repositioning.
Both groups were tested and interviewed again following a 5-
week period.
Results showed that the Chiropractic treatment patients exhibited
significant reductions in pain and improvement in all HRA
aspects that were measured. The control group did not show any
reduction in pain and only one subject had improvement in one
aspect of HRA. No real difference was detected in CROM.
The findings of the subject, simply stated, prove that
Chiropractic helps people with long-standing neck pain.
